We have our own private 3/4 mile stretch of the River coquet for those who wish to fish during the stay. The River Coquet is famous for it's autumn run of salmon and sea trout.
Every year huge sea trout up to 20lbs are caught on this lovely Northumbrian river, there are also good sized brown trout. The upper reaches of the river offer classic fly-fishing within the splendour of the Cheviot Hills.
The season for salmon runs from 1st February to 31st October. To fish our stretch you will need your rod license or alternatively purchase one from Rothbury's Post Office for approx. £20, no rod license is needed for children under the age of 12 years. Spin or fly fishing only.

Set within the Northumberland National Park you can literally walk from the farmhouse into unspoiled countryside and marvel at the spectacular views.
There are many forests and moorlands in the area with clearly marked footpaths, which provide invigorating challenges for the serious walkers, or a peaceful return to nature for those who wish to feel relaxed and regenerated by the time they go home. Take a look at the Shepherds Walks website, where you can buy online up to 16 local walks throughout the spectacular and varied County of Northumberland.

Experience the freedom of being on your bike in an area that offers some of the most breathtaking scenery; from rugged coastline scattered with castles and moorland.
Cycle through the silence of the Northumberland National Park. Enjoy a picnic by the lake - we can supply a packed lunch - or stop for a well-earned rest at a local teashop.
Cycling is a most rewarding way to explore the countryside. Northumbria offers a huge network of cycle routes, be it a gentle ride through one of the many forests breathing in fresh air and the fragrant smells of the wood or a more strenuous ride within the rolling hills of the Cheviots. Adults or children's mountain bikes can be hired from Rothbury by telephoning 01669 621338.
A secure lock up for bikes is available at Tosson Tower, and we are happy to fill up your thermos flask and can provide a pack lunch if you wish.

Golfers are well catered for with a new 18 hole course literally, just down the road, at Rothbury Golf Club.
The new course is a picturesque, part sloping and part level, 18-hole course that nestles in the heart of Northumberland's Coquet Valley and is within easy walking distance of the historic village of Rothbury.
The course, adjoining Northumberland National Park, benefits from spectacular views of the Coquet Valley with the Cheviot Hills and Cragside in the distance, the nearby Simonside Hills and the village itself whilst the River Coquet meanders along adjacent sides of the course.
